The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 affected the global economy, but Taiwan's economy continued to grow. A significant reason for this is believed to be the semiconductor industry. It is because chips are needed for everything from smartphones to automobiles. The pandemic has caused more people to choose to work and attend classes at home. The demand for various electronic communication products in human life is also increasing. The problem with a shortage of chips is that it affects numerous manufacturing industries worldwide. In addition to expanding production in Taiwan, TSMC has also set up a fab in Phoenix, Arizona, this year, actively increasing production capacity overseas.
A heated discussion has also erupted in Taiwanese society due to TSMC's rare deployment to recruit talent. TSMC recruited 1,500 graduating master's and doctoral students in advance this year. Encourage graduates who are graduating to join TSMC with a letter of appointment and a bonus of 100,000 Taiwan dollars at the end of the year. The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC for short, is the largest semiconductor manufacturer in the world. One of the business models in the semiconductor industry is wafer foundries. Fabless semiconductor companies are tasked with processing wafers, manufacturing integrated circuits, and, finally, producing the chip of an electronic product. Over the past 30 years of development, TSMC's advanced technology has led the world. It has become an indispensable chip supplier for many technology factories and a leader in global wafer foundry manufacturing services.
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 affected the global economy, but Taiwan's economy continued to grow. A significant reason for this is believed to be the semiconductor industry. It is because chips are needed for everything from smartphones to automobiles. The pandemic has caused more people to choose to work and attend classes at home. The demand for various electronic communication products in human life is also increasing. The problem with a shortage of chips is that it affects numerous manufacturing industries worldwide. In addition to expanding production in Taiwan, TSMC has also set up a fab in Phoenix, Arizona, this year, actively increasing production capacity overseas.
A heated discussion has also erupted in Taiwanese society due to TSMC's rare deployment to recruit talent. TSMC recruited 1,500 graduating master's and doctoral students in advance this year. Encourage graduates who are graduating to join TSMC with a letter of appointment and a bonus of 100,000 Taiwan dollars at the end of the year. TSMC's latest report indicates that its employees are paid approximately eight times the Taiwanese basic salary. Due to its attractive working conditions, TSMC is known as the "Happy Enterprise." However, Taiwanese society has taken notice of TSMC's 17.6% turnover rate. According to various news interviews, Taiwanese employees have mixed feelings about working at TSMC. While some think the work pressure of TSMC engineers is too high, others believe the year-end bonus pushing your salary over one million dollars is very attractive.
With a market capitalization of 550.9 billion dollars in 2021, TSMC is the world's largest semiconductor company. It has surpassed US Intel and South Korea's Samsung to become the world's highest market-value semiconductor company. The semiconductor industry has become Taiwan's economic lifeline. This is also why the Taiwanese regard TSMC as a magic mountain protecting Taiwan.
